Lightbulb OpenSource WebDB Framework??

I've used LAMP and used wordpress, OpenOffice and even naked PHP to build database apps.

What I'd like to find is an OpenSource framework that provides the ability to build a database online. I'd like to host my own private ZOHO Creator like website. I've looked at RubyonRails and expected that there would be something there, but it doesn't look like it's there.

Just to summarize.
  • A web framework to create database apps hosted by MySQL that does not require any programming. Do the whole thing with web interfaces, like you build a blog using Wordpress and friends.
  • Create forms, create tables, create views, maybe reports.
  • Allow embedding of views in other sites.
  • Don't need charts, or other fancy things. Yet.
  • Sort of OpenOffice Base for the web.
ZOHO Creator does it all and is very nice, but their cost structure is onerous. $15/mo for several large databases - 3 "apps" and a few records is free. This seems very high compared with my $5/mo unlimited/unlimited/unlimited hosting account.

Is this out there yet? I've looked for a while, but can't find it. We sure need this don't we?

Thanks,
ww

Checkt Drupal, particularly the contributed modules CCK and Views. You can build complex web applications without a lick of code.

Thanks. I've looked at both Drupal and Joomla, which has a similar plug-in called FLEXIcontent. Both are ok for small amounts of data, and certainly add greatly to the flexibility of these environments, but the ease of use of these plug-ins is no where near that of ZOHO Creator.

Thanks for the heads up.
